From the Post-Standard comes this article (scroll to the bottom) about Liz Moran's victory in yesterday's supervisor race:
First female supervisorAlso, I had a chance to hear the the Democratic candidates speak last night. Liz Moran thanked her family, the campaign team, and the town and county Democratic committees. She also said she looks forward to working with the board and to serving the entire community. Kristi Andersen also thanked everyone and commented that her colleagues in Political Science academia want to know when she's going to publish an article about the experience. And Larry Shipps, after thanking the assembled group, stressed how important it was that the candidates ran as a group, and how incremental change is important to the democratic process in Cazenovia. Posted by jimj at November 9, 2005 08:05 AM | TrackBackVoters in Cazenovia made history Tuesday when they elected the town's first female supervisor.
Democrat Liz Moran edged out incumbent Republican Tim Hunt to take the top seat in town government. About one-third of Cazenovia's registered voters turned out for the election, casting 1,164 votes for Moran and 1,002 for Hunt, according to the Board of Elections.
Moran offered a group of about two dozen supporters pieces of sheet cake Tuesday night as she celebrated her win - and her 53rd birthday - at her home on Route 20.
"I got everything I wanted for my birthday," she said with a smile.
Hunt was elected to the town board in 1997 and was named town supervisor in October 2004 after the death of Tom Dreisbach.
"We ran a good race," Hunt told a gathering of supporters at the Golden Pheasant restaurant. "It was clean, it was positive, and it talked about the issues."
This is Moran's first time in office.
"I'm happy people in Cazenovia were looking for a change and were open to a new candidate," she said.
