I bet the gun-owning father of these boys is breathing a huge sign of relief. His 13-year-old son found his loaded .38 in the house, then the 13-year-old accidentally shot his 10-year-old son:
I'm very glad these boys are OK. This could have had a horrifying ending. PLEASE, if you own guns and have children in the house, LOCK THEM UP securely. Keeping a loaded gun in your nightstand, in a shoebox, on the top shelf of the closet, or anywhere else is an invitation to the ultimate heartbreak. Posted by jimj at December 1, 2005 04:57 PM
Ten-year-old accidentally shot by his 13-year-old brother
A 13-year-old accidentally shot his 10-year-old brother in the head Wednesday night while the two were at their Skaneateles home.Timothy Karlik, of 1341 Heifer Road, was taken to University Hospital, where he went into surgery to remove bullet fragments from his skull. He is listed in serious but stable condition.
Timothy and his brother Tyler, 13, were home with a 6-year-old child, state police said. The older boys were playing with their father's loaded .38-caliber revolver when the accident happened about 8:30 p.m. Their father, Kenneth Karlik, said he had no idea the boys knew where he had hidden the gun.
One of the children immediately called the father, who came home and took Timothy to Auburn Memorial Hospital. From there, he was transferred to University Hospital, troopers said.
An investigation into the accidental shooting is continuing.
