Update: 01/29/2006: The trial will resume tomorrow (Monday 1/30), when closing arguments are expected from both sides.
Lieutenant Colonel USASF (retired) Daniel Marvin, now a Cazenovia resident, is being sued by soldiers mentioned in his Vietnam War memoir Expendable Elite. The trial is currently taking place in Charleston, South Carolina.
The story has been picked up by several other services, including Fayetteville (NC) Online, which covers its hometown-headquarters Special Forces Association, the Associated Press, and television outlets in North and South Carolina (for example, here), Georgia, and Alabama.
Today's Syracuse Post-Standard also contains a story about the trial.
Jim, I can't say as I remember Mr. Marvin, is he new to Cazenovia? I see those sueing him are represented by a Wilmington Attorney. I haven't seen anything in the Wilmington paper about this. That seems unusal as this area is a heavy military area. I'm just wondering, is this the same gentleman who stands on the corner on Albany
Street and protests the war, etc.? Oh my god, what have I been missing the last 5 years?
Once again thats for all you do.
Pat
Dan writes the "Pig City Garden Calendar" for the Hi Neighbor pennysaver (or "adpaper" as it was called in a column in this week's Republican). I believe he and his wife have lived in Cazenovia for at least ten years. He wrote a letter to the Republican not long ago explaining his affinity for the community and where he'd lived before, but unfortunately I don't remember the details.
I'm pretty sure he is a supporter of President Bush and the current wars, but I don't want to put words in his mouth. Whenever I've had the chance to talk with him, he has seemed like a very sincere person.
Thanks as always for your kind words.
