Cazenovia College Chorale to perform “Phantom” selections and Randall Thompson’s “Frostiana”

Cazenovia, N.Y. – Cazenovia College will present the Cazenovia College Chorale’s annual Spring Concert on Wednesday April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Cazenovia College Theatre. The event is free and open to the public. The concert is sponsored by the Chorale and the Student Government Association. For information contact Sue Berger at 655-7221

The concert will be directed by Peter Ciarelli and accompanied by William Verity. The Chorale will perform selections from the Broadway musical “Phantom of the Opera” and Randall Thompson’s “Frostiana,” a suite of seven poems by Robert Frost, set to music: “The Road Not Taken,” “The Pasture,” “Come In,” “The Telephone,” “A Girl's Garden,” “Stopping By Woods On a Snowy Evening” and “Choose Something Like a Star.” Guest musicians will be featured in the “Frostiana” performance.

“Frostiana” was commissioned in 1958 by the people of Amherst, Mass. for the celebration of the town’s 200th anniversary, to honor the New England poet, who lived for a time in Amherst. “The Gift Outright” was the poem chosen, but Thompson, a friend of Frost’s, instead chose to compose a suite of seven poems and titled the suite “Frostiana.” The poems Thompson selected make up a nostalgic glimpse of New England life and values. Robert Frost attended the bicentennial performance and at the conclusion expressed his delight by rising to his feet and shouting, “Sing that again!”
