College Career Services Office Gets New Director

Cazenovia College submitted the following press release:

Stephen M. Klein, Ed.D., of Fayetteville, N.Y., has joined Cazenovia College as director of Career Services and Internship Programs. He comes to Cazenovia from Albright College in Reading, Pa., where he was director of the Career Development Center.

At Cazenovia, Klein is responsible for identifying internship, volunteer and seasonal, and full-time employment opportunities, providing career counseling and assisting students and alumni with career development opportunities, including resume preparation and interview skills. He will also plan and host the annual Career Fair and Internship Expo, and track alumni career outcomes.

Klein plans to begin working with students during their freshman year. He said, “Students need to begin preparing for their job searches long before they graduate. They need to know what’s out there – where the jobs in their field of study are, and what the transition from student to employee will be like.”

Part of Klein’s role at Cazenovia College will be meeting with potential employers, to make them aware of the talent available in the pool of Cazenovia graduates, and to connect them with students who can fill internship positions and graduates who will be seeking full-time positions. “Because of the connections the College has developed with Central New York employers,” Klein said, “we’ll be able to assist students who want to stay in the area with their job searches beyond the day they graduate. One of my goals is to be sure those seeking employment outside the area master job search skills before they leave school.”

Klein earned his doctoral degree in education at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., with a concentration in higher education administration. His dissertation was titled “A Model for a Comprehensive Career Development Program for Liberal Arts Seniors.” He also earned a master’s degree in education from Northeastern, concentrating in career counseling, and was awarded a teaching assistantship there. He graduated from Pace University in New York, N.Y., with a bachelor of arts degree in history, with a minor in secondary education.

At Albright College, Klein collaborated with a number of other offices and programs in the development of a number of programs to assist students with career planning, including, “What Can I Do With A Major In …?”; “Careers in …”; ASK (Alumni Sharing Knowledge); Lion’s PAWS (Parents Advising on Work and School); and CASE (Connecting Albright Students and Employers) and other career preparation and assistance programs. He also taught a credit bearing-career course for undeclared students, and career workshops to assist students with skills such as resume preparation, interview skills, and the application process for employment and graduate / professional schools.

Klein also worked as a program and planning analyst at the Dane County Job Center in Madison Wis.; and was director of the Career Development Office, College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he was also an assistant professor in the College of Education. At Boston University he was a career counselor in the Office of Career Services, and director of academic advising for the College of Engineering. At Northeastern University in Boston he was assistant director of the Life/Career Planning Program, and a career planning instructor.
