I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Asylum Street Spankers perform at the Earlville Opera House over the summer. The band applies its incredible musicianship and vocal talent to styles ranging from Dixieland to progressive rock, covering or tipping the hat to everyone from Bessie Smith to Harry Nilsson to Trent Reznor.
Their most recent single is "Stick Magnetic Ribbons on your SUV", a biting commentary on the feel-good emptiness and irony of putting political stickers on a gas-guzzling vehicle.
