Cazenovia College's April 2007 Events Calendar

The following events and non-credit courses are scheduled at Cazenovia College in April, 2007.  Unless otherwise noted, they are free and open to the public.

 

Now through Sunday, April 16: The Cazenovia College Art Gallery’s* Annual Juried Student Exhibition Cazenovia College Art Gallery. The show features student work selected by the College’s art and design faculty. Jonathan Kirk’s rod and steel sculpture “Argonaut” continues to be displayed in the Sculpture Court.

 

Wednesday, April 4: Cazenovia College presents Coffee & Conversation, 7 - 8 p.m. in the Cazenovia Grill Community Room, featuring an Open Mike Poetry Reading. Readers and listeners welcome. The College Bookstore will offer a raffle and Cazenovia Grill and Common Grounds will be open for purchase of food and beverages. Call 315-655-7378 for information.

 

Friday, April 6 is the registration deadline for The Third Annual Symposium on Energy in the 21st Century, scheduled for Friday, April 20 at Cazenovia College. To register for this free symposium visit www.cazenovia.edu/energy.  Editor: see April 20 entry.

 

Monday, April 9: Learning by the Lake Lecture Series #1, at 3 p.m. in Cazenovia College’s Morgan Center on the lower level of Hubbard Hall. Call 315-655-7107 to register. Series fee is $20. Barbara Peklo, certified health touch practitioner and Reiki  master, will discuss healing touch energy-based therapy, and the use of Reiki as non-invasive techniques to relieve pain, stress, and enhance healing and the immune system.  She is an outsourced practitioner at the Hematology/Oncology Center and will discuss holistic approaches to prevention and treatment. 

 

Thursday, April 19 through early May: The Cazenovia College Art Gallery* will host the Annual Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibitions, with work by students in the Division of Art and Design. Visit the Web site for schedule information. The exhibitions will end with a show of the Art and Design Program Award Winners from the graduating senior class chosen by members of the Art and Design Program faculty.

Wednesday, April 11: Cazenovia College Continuing Education offers Gardening in the Shade from 7 to 9 p.m., with instructor V. Spina.  Shade gardening is a special situation requiring careful attention to plant material choices.  Attention will be paid to ground covers and native plants with an emphasis on creating a garden that will not require a lot of maintenance. Friday through Sunday, April 13 to 15: Cazenovia College will stage a production of “Seussical the Musical,” at the Catherine Cummings Theatre at Cazenovia College, Friday and Saturday, April 13 & 14, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 15, at 2 p.m. (also April 20 – 22 - editor: see April 20 Seussical entry). “Seussical” is based on the works of children's author Theodore Geisel, known to the world as Dr. Seuss. Wednesdays, April 18 and 25:  Cazenovia College Continuing Education offers Save a Life (Adult, Child and Infant CPR) from 6:30 to 9 p.m., with instructor J. Addante. Course fee is $36, with a $10 text book optional. Learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for adults, children and infants. This course will also demonstrate the use of the Automated External Defibrillation (AED) and present general emergency care. Class limit 18. Call 316-655-7107 to register.

 

Thursday, April 19: Learning by the Lake Lecture Series #2, at 3 p.m. in Cazenovia College’s Morgan Center on the lower level of Hubbard Hall.  Call 315-655-7107 to register. Series fee is $20. Pauline Cerere, licensed certified social worker, is a psychotherapist and member of the clinical faculty of SUNY Upstate Medical University.  Her talk will focus on the teaching and practice of Mindfulness, a method used successfully for 2,500 years to alleviate human suffering and stress reduction.  Pauline’s presentation will include both didactic and experiential components and she encourages you to bring “an inquiring mind.” 

Friday, April 20: Cazenovia College will host the Third Annual Symposium on Energy in the 21st Century, beginning at 8 a.m., at the Schneeweiss Athletic Complex on Liberty St., in Cazenovia. The free symposium is sponsored by Cazenovia College and the Center for Economic and Environmental Partnership, Inc.  For information and to register for symposium visit www.cazenovia.edu/energy. This year's focus will be Energy Sustainable Communities, an overview of communities that successfully implement policies relating to use of renewable energy and responsible use of energy, with involvement of the local population in planning and implementation of these policies.  Energy facility tours are offered after lunch for a small transportation fee.

Friday, April 20: Cazenovia College’s Environmental Sciences Program presents a biological sciences informational gathering: “Mammals of New York Poster Session,” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Hubbard Hall on Seminary Street in Cazenovia.  Students from the Cellular and Organismal Biology class will present posters that describe the characteristics of more than 20 different mammal species of New York, including habitat requirements, diet, behavior, status in New York, and more. Tuesday, April 24: Cazenovia College presents the 2007 Internship Expo from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the College’s Schneeweiss Athletic Complex on Liberty Street.  More than 90 students will be on hand with displays related to their internships with local and regional businesses.  For more information contact Christine Richardson at 315-655-7147.

Wednesday, April 25: The Cazenovia College Chorale’s annual Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Catherine Cummings Theatre at Cazenovia College will feature the Chorale and guest musicians performing the Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramirez. The group will also sing a selection of jazz pieces with solos by members of the Student Vocal Ensemble.

 

Thursday, April 26: Learning by the Lake Lecture Series #3, at 3 p.m. in Cazenovia College’s Morgan Center on the lower level of Hubbard Hall. Call 315-655-7107 to register. Series fee is $20.  Dr. Linda Lemay is a family practice physician.  Her talk will focus on her practice of approaching healing by using alternative approaches, including acupuncture.   Her practice includes working with members of the Oneida Nation and participants in a drug and alcohol treatment center.   

 

Saturday, April 28: The Cazenovia College Fashion Studies Program presents Viva Las Vegas, the Annual Student Fashion Show at 7:30 p.m. at the College’s Athletic Complex on Liberty Street in Cazenovia.  Fashions designed by students in the program, including a senior thesis collection, will be modeled by students.  Also included will be designs from the College’s Look AgainTM line of repurposed clothing, designed and sewn by students and sold at The Key on Albany Street in Cazenovia.
