Get a Kick Out of a Free Flick at Lorenzo
Outdoor showing of “High Society” August 14th

Cazenovia -- Here’s the word from the bird! Make the scene at Lorenzo Thursday, August 14 for a blast from the past. Get a kick out of a free flick on the front lawn. Cast an eyeball at “High Society,” the big tickle comedy starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong, released in 1956. Bring a blanket and cool it for some great 1950s tunes before the movie gets underway at 8:30 p.m. During intermission, get on the stick and participate in a hula hoop contest!

This musical romantic comedy is a remake of The Philadelphia Story and tells the tale of the wealthy and formerly married couple of Tracy Lord (Kelly) and Dexter Haven (Crosby) on the weekend of Kelly’s remarriage to George Kittredge. Dexter is still in love with Tracy, and the love triangle grows when a reporter and photographer (Sinatra and Celeste Holme) from “Spy Magazine” arrive to report on the nuptials.

Wonderful music is supplied throughout courtesy of composer Cole Porter and performances by Louis Armstrong (playing himself as a friend of Dexter’s and the leader of a band who has come to town to perform in a contest) and, of course, Crosby and Sinatra.

Popular snacks and drinks from the 1950s, as well as popcorn, will be available for purchase. The movie will be offered weather-dependent. Please call Lorenzo at (315) 655-3200 for more information.

Lorenzo State Historic Site is one of 18 state parks and six historic sites in the Central Region of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
