How do you sleep at night?

When I read stuff like this article about the role of mercenaries in the Iraq war, it gets me just as angry about the war as I was in March 2003. Thousands of American soldiers are dead in this war; the author speculates that number would be smaller if it weren't for the actions - outside the law - of the "private military contractors" (mercenaries) there.

There is a lot of evil in the world. A lot of it these days seems to be concentrated in the White House and in organizations that promoted and perpetuated lies about the war such as the American Enterprise Institute. Sickening.

Town of Cazenovia Election - Board and Supervisor Candidates

The Cazenovia Democratic Party caucus has selected two candidates for seats on the Cazenovia Town Board this fall. The candidates are Helen Beale and Bill Zupan.

Sparky Christakos is running as an independent for one of the seats; Mr. Christakos is also endorsed by the town's Republican Party, and appeared on the cover of this week's Cazenovia Republican newspaper as part of the team kicking off the Republican candidates' campaigns.

Supervisor Liz Moran is running unoppsed for a second term.

From the article:

Election Day

The Nov. 6 election will feature four candidates for two seats on the town council. Incumbent Carol Schoch is seeking re-election as a member of the Republican party. Also, Sparky Christakos, running as an independent, was endorsed by the Republicans.

Tim Hunt will be running for highway superintendent. Linda Mather, who has been the town clerk for 20 years, is seeking re-election. Both have been endorsed by the Republican party and are running unopposed.

Liz Moran is also running unopposed.

“We’ve made great progress, but we’re not there yet,” Moran said. “The town board and supervisor we elect this fall will be responsible for finishing the job and implementing the plan, and that’s why I want to continue to serve.”

Local Proposition 1

Also on the ballot for Nov. 6 will be a local proposition. The approval of the proposition will abolish the elected position of town highway superintendent as of Jan. 1, 2010 and establish the appointed position of town highway superintendent as of the same date.
The position of the Cazenovia Highway Superintendent has always been decided by public election and has always been a two-year term. If the proposition is approved, the town board will have the power to appoint someone to the position and monitor town highway activities as with any town employee.

Cazenovia College Receives Fundraising Award

From Cazenovia College:

Cazenovia College Receives Fundraising Award

Council for Advancement and Support of Education gives Overall Improvement Award

Cazenovia, N.Y. – Carol Satchwell, vice president for Institutional Advancement at Cazenovia College, recently announced that the College was chosen to receive an Overall Improvement award based on three years of data submitted to the Council for Aid to Education's annual Voluntary Support of Education (VSE) Survey, a national reporting and assessment document. More than 1,000 higher educational institutions were eligible. An independent data analyst narrowed the field to 482 and 47 institutions were selected to receive awards, 30 in the category of Overall Performance and 17 in the category of Overall Improvement.

Satchwell said, “Our fundraising program is succeeding because we are taking all the detailed, necessary steps to plan, provide proper outreach, and learn about our constituents and their interests, and above all else, to provide an ethically sound, consistent and professional service. At the core of our efforts is a solid communications program, which has helped us to raise the profile of the College, leading to an increase in enrollment and greater recognition by our constituents.”

Dr. Mark J. Tierno, president of the College, said, “This is well-deserved recognition. Over the past seven years the College has raised more than $9 million, and the fund-raising momentum is steadily building. Overall improvement truly is what the College has sought and this recognition confirms we are achieving it.”
