Thank you, Amie, for your response. Your explanation helps provide context for the statements that were printed in the Republican. I felt the article was strongly biased against the village and the brewery project, and my perception of that bias was the filter through which I interpreted the printed statements.

My own involvement in the larger Cazenovia community began over issues of commercial development; your concerns about careful development and respect for our community are concerns we share.

I tend to agree with you and am in
hopes that his statement was made in
heat of the moment. I also think some
people unfaily think of Cazenovians as
exclusionary. While there may be some,
by and large I know differently.

CPF certainly does a great job as
steward of the trails and I’m sure
that will hold true for the future.

Dear Jim. As the neighbor that you mention in your comment, I certainly want to clear something up. We bought our house this past summer with the full intention of keeping all trails open. We love Cazenovians. I grew up there and am anxious to bring my young family back. The issue we are having is with the proposed size and scope of the Empire Brewing “Farmstead.” There will be 2 x40 car parking lots. And with easy access through the CPF trails to our property, we are concerned. Not about the locals. We have two young children and a couple of dogs and we look forward to the safety, peace, and privacy that Cazenovia offers. Our concern is obviously with patrons who come from other areas and may not have the same level of respect or care while using the CPF trails and, therefore, all the property owners and homeowners that gladly forego privacy in order to support the efforts of CPF and access to trails. We never intended to get in the way of tradition and have therefore communicated very clearly to the Hunt Club and the Lorenzo Driving Competition, etc. that we gladly grant them access to the Old Trees property, as they have always had. We are trying very hard to support the Village in whatever they decide for the future of that land. It is important to us and in the best interest of all, however, that this proposed project be presented with full transparency and awareness of the impact it will have on the surrounding area. I’m surprised Sears is even still in business. Its probably good that someone else is buying this Hometown unit, because I don’t see Sears, as a company, existing in 3 years.
